Stained Glass Quilt 69" x 69"
Start by cutting your border and sashing strips from black fabric using the length, or selvage.                                                             Black fabric: 3 yards
Cut (6) strips 2" x 68" (which will leave a little extra)                                                                                                                                 Batiks: about 3 yards total
Cut (2) strips 2" x 71" (for top and bottom borders, leaving extra)                                                                                                          White fabric: about 1/2 yard
Cut (20) strips 2" x 12 1/2" for sashing between blocks.                                                                                                                          Backing fabric: 4 yards
Cut (7) strips 2" x WOF for binding.                                                                                                                                                            Binding: incl. in black fabric measurement
                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Batting: 72" x 72"

The drawings below are in three groups: nine blocks, nine blocks and seven blocks. If you click on one group, you should be able to print that set of blocks, if you need to.

After piecing and arranging the blocks, use the 2" x 12 1/2" strips to make 5 rows of 5 blocks each. Using (4) 2" x 68" strips of sashing, attach between each row. When attaching the long sashing strip, find the center of the strip and the center of the row. Pin the center point, then pin out from the center. This will help prevent ruffling or wavy sashing. Trim excess.

Once the rows are sewn together, attach (2) 2" x 68" strips to the sides (same method as between the rows) and the (2) 2" x 71" strips to the top and bottom. Trim excess

Make the backing piece. Cut 4 yards into (2) 2 yard pieces. Then cut each into 37 inches wide. Sew these two pieces (each 37" x 72") together making one 73"x 72" backing (accounting for 1/2 in seam allowance). Now sandwich your quilt top, batting and backing together and quilt!
